As a group (Maria, Artemis and I)had a look at each one of these stories and found the three which intrigued us the most. The three we found were the 'digital addiction', 'meteor strikes Russia' and 'hostages escape Taliban'. We then came up with the subgenres of a psychological, crime, action, horror and supernatural thrillers; we had to used the three news stories we picked and come up with a story for each sub-genre; so we ending up with 15 ideas and hopefully at least one of them would be good. We had the golden rules from Phil which are 1)don't use clowns 2)don't use flashbacks 3)don't use running in a field 4) don't use voodoo dolls and finally 5) do not use students if the characters are adults. We came up with many ideas; many of which were pretty rubbish but we had about three good ones: 1)A girl around the age of 15 who had telekinetic powers which are fuelled by a certain song which has a certain memory attached to it but it had been suppressed in childhood 2)A man around 35 who is overly obsessed with the game called 'sims' his world revolves around it. He creates this perfect woman in his game and he starts to search in the real world; he finds a woman who looks like his creation and attaches himself to her. Lures her to his home and holds her hostages to play this real life version of sims where he is the controller. 3)There is a hotel were there I fake staff and fake customers and tourists would come to this hotel and are taken as hostages and if they our good that may become fake staff or fake customers and if bad the leader would commit one deadly sin to them everyday of the week. There were obviously many complications with our ideas as off settings and realism but at least we had a starting point.
