evaluation task 2.How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Tom: Tom was the character who played the mugger and eventually the murderer. His dress code was that of a grey brand-less hoodie with low waist jeans making them big and baggy.

This dress style stereotypically connotes this thug like teen which is aggressive and most likely an ASBO. Hoodies are even forbidden in some places as of the image that can give off( like giving shop owners the impression like they would be mugged). All these aspects of Tom lead the audience to believe he is a lower class to PHIL (the journalist) which creates a great contrast between the two characters. Toms age is also a massive part of his representation as of his 'youth'. If you type 'Youth' into Google images it will most defiantly come up with pictures of thugs or yobs- which is what is backing up the stereotype as even Google (the media) is associating the younger generations with crime.

The stereotype that is suggested is reinforced and Tom conforms to it as he does murder Phil- the only difference is that Tom is clearly a professional at this job so seems more of a hit man or an assassin tis due to the fast editing pace of the shooting scene and the match on action. His dominance challenges Phil's class and age superiority.

Phil: Phil; the journalists costume was a shirt, tie, jacket and briefcase all suggesting he is in quite a high class job and probably earning a substantial amount of money who has a high status.

It is likely that he isn't in such a professional job like a lawyer because of his collar being popper and buttons undone and also the fact that he is un shaved- business men are not allowed to have beard as may make them look common or rugged. But his job is clearly professional opposed to a manual job which puts him in a position of authority and superiority over Tom.
